SPECIAL NOTE:
EMERGENCY RELIEF FOR HAITI − As you are aware, Haiti is in crisis because of a devastating earthquake that has practically destroyed the capital city, with a population of 2 million. Haiti’s population is nearly 80% Catholic. Many churches and Catholic schools, hospitals, and institutions have been destroyed, including the cathedral. Archbishop Joseph Serge Miot of Port-au-Prince was killed in the earthquake. A friend of Fr. Ford, Fr. Rick Frechette, C.P., a priest and medical doctor, originally from Wethersfield, founded and operates an orphanage and two hospitals there. Based on early reports, one hospital was destroyed, and the other damaged. An emergency second collection was taken up the last two weekends, and donations will continue to be accepted in the coming weeks, which will be split between Catholic Relief Services and St. Damien Hospital. Visit www.crs.org for information on Catholic Relief Services’ involvement in disaster relief in Haiti. To learn more about St. Damien Hospital, visit www.saintdamienhospital.wordpress.com. Please remember the people of Haiti in your prayers.
